About
There has been a lot of buzz around location based games since early 2000 but not many games have made it to the market, and even fewer can show a successful track record. Most games have been used as a PR or marketing ploy for products and not as a game in its own right.
We want to address the problems that seem to exist with the establishment of LBS by using games and entertainment services. How can we make them successful? How do different people view them? Are LBS-enabled applications and games getting a new push with the launch of GPS enabled phones? How can the game industry benefit from and develop new games for the new generations of phones? How can the wider ITC industry benefit from the ground-breaking work of researchers and game developers? Will the end-users enjoy this kind of products, or is it all about LBS marketing and tracking?
The first European Location-Based Entertainment Summit took take place on May 13, 2008, in Malmö. Aiming to put focus on the entertainment and game aspects of location awareness technologies, we brought together the researchers and the industry for extensive talks and discussions.
